About

I’m Shrikant. I’m 26, I live in Pune, and I’m a pianist by training. I spent fifteen years at the instrument and a few more playing for a living. About a year ago I stopped treating music as the career and started learning to build things with AI, from the fundamentals up. I am still, by any honest measure, early. I’d rather say that than pretend otherwise.

Right now the work is small language models. First, how training actually works, by building the pieces myself. Then fine-tuning a small model on data I made and showing, on a held-out test set, that it beats the base model. The part I care about most is evaluation. A model you can’t score is a model you can’t trust. I post the work as I go, including what breaks, because the write-ups of what broke are the ones I wish had existed when I was stuck.

Outside of that, I still play. Weekend gigs pay the rent and keep my hands in practice. I read about how companies, and the people who start them, actually get built, which is where the first essay on this site came from. And I’m building this site to be a place you can walk around in rather than a page you scroll. Slowly, one object at a time.
